Why is MacCokey agar inoculated next to a urine specimen?
MacConkey agar is a selective culture medium formulated to grow gram unenthusiastic bacteria and suppres the growth of gram positive germs.
The vast majority of urinary tract infections are cause by gram negative germs.
MacConkey agar is used for isolation and a BAP is used for the colony count.
